The irish foursome Sprints explores pain, passion and perseverance. Karla Chubb, singer, songwriter and front woman, faces her demons and looks them right in the eyes and has learned to channel her anger and rage. It’s about inner struggles, the feeling of having no place in the world, frustrations about injustices, misogyny, homophobia, sexism and inequality. Plenty of subject to be pissed off about as a queer person in a society that still struggle to embrace diversity.

Sprints fell into perfection when they realised that anger in music doesn’t necessarily mean negative energy, but that it can possess therapeutic qualities. The group threw all their influences into the melting pot and got an awesome mix. Elements of groups from Pixies, Bauhaus, Siouxie Sioux to Savages, King Gizzard, IDLES and LCD Soundsystem, kneaded into a pumping and catchy garagepunk with their heart on their sleeve and in their heart in the right place. ‘Sadness or anger, but make it danceable’ says Chub. And that is exactly what it is, cause singles like ‘Literary mind’, ‘Manifesto’ and ‘Delia Smith’ Sprints combines the brimming energy of postpunk with sing-a-long choruses that reminds one of punk-rock à la The Distillers.

After two EP’s Sprints will shortly release their debut LP, on indie-bastion City Slang (King Hannah, Nada Surf, Caribou …) . Their live shows are a furious and swirling affair, checking out at least one of their many live sessions on YouTube as proof is a must.
