Having been one of Greece’s major alternative popstars for years, Σtella (real name Stella Chronopoulou) has hit the international spotlights with the release of her latest album ‘Up and Away’. With assistance from British house producer Redinho and her new label Sub Pop, Σtella saw songs from her album being added to playlists by fans of Altin Gun, Nu Genea and Sven Wunder. Last January, she also played one of the best concerts at this years Eurosonic showcase festival.
‘Up and Away’ is a perfect blend of Σtella’s musical roots, her love for sixties and seventies folkpop by legends like Grigoris Bithikotsis and Tzeni Vanou, and Redinho’s crisp production, which adds some Tame Impala psychpop and Kruangbin world groove. Backed by gorgeous Bozoukiriffs and eastern pop rhythms, Σtella uses her contra-alt vocals to sing about Greek tragedies, about sweet and deceptive love. Breaking Waves!
