Hiroshima-born and Canada-based singer-songwriter Jonah Yano leapt to the attention of Toronto's prolific music scene with songs he recorded on his smartphone and swung online in 2016. Through via, he got in touch with BADBADNOTGOOD, the beginning of a fruitful series of collaborations. Yano released his first LP, 'Souvenir', in 2020, with production credits for Canadian experimental house producer Jacques Greene, BADBADNOTGOOD and his father - Tatsuya Maraoka. 'Souvenir' was well-received by the likes of The Fader, Billboard, Exclaim!, NME and Gilles Peterson, Benji B and the lamented Virgil Abloh declared themselves fans of the album.

After a tour with Clairo and two sessions for Berlin-based Youtube platform COLORS, Jonah Yano released his second album in January '23. On 'Portrait Of A Dog', he tells stories about his identity as a member of the Japanese-Canadian diaspora and reflects on various family dynamics and interpersonal relationships. With his distinctive soft voice and supported by meandering jazz arrangements, Jonah Yano sounds like no other. Inspired by songwriters such as Adrianne Lenker and Feist, and again with the help of BADBADNOTGOOD, the songwriter blossoms on 'Portrait Of A Dog'. Tender, at times heartbreaking, but never tacky and always with a surprising musical twist behind it. Breaking Waves!
