Anyone who has watched the new Spanish hit series ‘The Pier’ (‘El Embarcadero’ – which you can watch through VRT.nu!), will definitely recognize ‘Coyotes’ by Travis Birds. The series’ opening song adds the same kind of intensity and class as Rodrigo Amarante has added to ‘Narcos’, Mogwai has added to ‘Les Revenants’ and Apparat has added to ‘Dark’.

Madrid-born Travis Birds is more than just one song, of course. Her music, a mix of elements from flamenco and pop, contains a roughness similar to Tom Waits’ and PJ Harvey’s. Travis Birds is raw, powerful, impassioned and blessed with a characterful voice that turns heads. Her music sounds like the soundtrack to messy southern streets, terraces under stretched out washing lines and colourful characters straight from an Almodóvar movie. She was the Spanish participant at showcase festival Eurosonic, and now she’s here for Breaking Waves!
