Brussels quartet ECHT! use their combined jazz talent to create concrete beats that still manage to groove elastically. ECHT! is real (really though, it’s Dutch for ‘real’): no computers or music apps to get people moving, but conventional instruments played by true artists.
With their debut album ‘INWANE’, released last year through SDBAN, the Brussels natives moved beyond a cult status they had cultivated through support by connaisseurs like Rik De Bruycker and Lefto, and through their brewmixes: live beat to beat ‘dj-sets’ where they play original material and reworkings of, among others, Kendrick Lamar, De La Soul, Childish Gambino and Slum Village. On ‘INWANE’, ECHT! prove that they can perfectly translate this live vibe to a record. But there’s still nothing like seeing the band on stage. Did we mention to bring your dancing shoes?
