DITZ’ postpunk features guitars mangled through a boatload of effects, sluggish yet pumping bass lines, drums that sound like the drummer holds a grudge against his drum set, and vocals that range from parlando to annihilating screams and back. It’s remarkable that the band managed to stand out from a genre that’s the definition of a packed field, but their forward thinking mix of noise rock and postpunk was picked up scene overlord Joe Talbot, and it has gotten rave reviews from outlets like DIY, Loud & Quiet, and The Line of Best Fit. DITZ’ DNA features bands like Flipper, Black Flag and Fugazi, yet they manage to fit right in with acts like Idles and Girl Band. Their music talks of uncertainty, gender, queerness, and being a missfit in a society full of assholes. Frontman Cal is the antithesis of the macho hardcore bro, uniting the band in a colourful depiction of the Brighton café scene.
DITZ first caught the attention through a series of singles, featuring the Peaches cover ‘Fuck The Pain Away’, and ‘Gayboy’, which was picked up by French fashion label Celine. The band have already featured on the stages of big festivals like Glastonbury, Leffingeleuren and Best Kept Secret. They’ve toured as support for Idles and Slaves, as well as with Drahla. Debut album ‘The Great Regression’ has been among the most exciting guitar music of the past year. And on stage, they rock even harder. Breaking Waves!
