High Hi, the musical barrage from Leuven, released their breakthrough album ‘Firepool’ on Friday March 13th of last year. Not the best of timing. Luckily, the dark pop/indie rock band still had plenty left to own 2020. ‘Daggers’, ‘Alligot’ and ‘94A9’ grew into radio hits and High Hi threw themselves at every COVID-proof concert they could find. The audience? That soon followed. Because a band with High Hi’s urgency, power and catchiness is impossible to ignore. Is it the catchy bass lines? The uniquely contrasting voices of Anne-Sophie Ooghe and Didi Gonzalez? The wavy shoegaze guitars? The popsongs underneath which make you push that repeat button over and over?
