Founders of ‘Electronic Body Music’, Front 242 remains one of the most influential bands in Belgian music history. Their mix of industrial and cold wave with postpunk and dance beats lay the foundations for bands like Nine Inch Nails, and the impact of their strong visual identity can still be found in every new generation of wave and synth bands. Throughout the eighties Front 242 gained new followers on both sides of the Atlantic. 1988 saw them break out in a major way, thanks to hits like ‘Welcome To Paradise’ and the Anton Corbijn directed music video for ‘Headhunter’. It sealed their status as innovative band and musical pioneers. Their influence can still be heard among festival headliners like The Prodigy and Underworld, and even among techno producers from Detroit and the latest generation of rave-dj’s.
They remain a unique and intense live band, touring with original members Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals), Patrick Codenys (keyboard) and Richard 23 (electronic drums). Full of integrity, independence and just being one of a kind, the band celebrated their 40th birthday in 2021 with a twice sold out Ancienne Belgique. We’re over the moon to welcome them back to our Cactus Club!
